Extension Colleagues,

President Capilouto provided a lengthy update regarding COVID-19 yesterday.. While portions of this message are specific to students and academic programming, there are a few key points relative to all employees.

As noted below, staff operations will continue as normal. Extension programming should continue as reasonable. However, when possible and appropriate online options should be used. Keep in mind your audiences and how the guidance from government and health officials affects those audiences. We highly suggest through at least April 6, that if online options are not appropriate that all non-essential meetings are postponed.

The President’s message indicates that university-sponsored domestic travel is strongly discouraged. In general, domestic travel for us means travel out-of-state. Planned in-state and local travel may continue at this time. Agents should check with event organizers if you have specific questions related to state Extension events and/or in-service trainings.

We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as needed. Please continue to consult your district director as specific questions arise. A wonderful scenario in three weeks’ time would be that the spread of COVID-19 in KY was contained.

Thank you for working through this situation calmly.
